Raising funds ahead of Senate elections political corruption: Sirajul Haq
LAHORE: Senator Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer Sirajul Haq called the distribution of millions of rupees among Pakistani lawmakers of Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) just ahead of the senatorial elections on behalf of the development funds a pot- shameless political bribery and the continuation of the same corrupt practices that Prime Minister Imran Khan had condemned for two decades.
Sirajul Haq reminded the prime minister to refer to his own criticism of the corruption of previous governments to judge his own policies, he said in an interview with reporters after a rally in Mansoora on Friday.
“Isn’t that brazen hypocrisy,” Sirajul Haq asked the prime minister, adding that “when he was in opposition he harshly condemned corrupt practices, but now he follows himself the same after coming to power “. He said the PM had no comparison when it came to U-turns. Development projects must be carried out by local governments and the way that has been adopted in Pakistan is not democratic, moral and legal, he added.
He regretted that the PTI did not meet the expectations of the masses. He said corruption, unemployment and inflation had become trademarks of the PTI government, making the country the laughing stock of the world. He said the country needs honest and bold leadership that can pull it out of the current crises.
Previously, he had participated in funeral prayers for JI chief Hafiz Salman Butt, who died Thursday evening of cardiac arrest. Large numbers of people from all walks of life attended the funeral prayers.
The JI leader paid tribute to Hafiz Salman’s religious and political services and called his life a shining example of a struggle that should be followed by all political workers and JI. Hafiz Idrees led Hafiz Salman’s funeral prayers in Mansoora.
