Ukku activists to mark 200th day of unrest with Padayatra – The New Indian Express

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata committee, which spearheaded the Ukku agitation, is preparing for another show of force.

To mark the 200th day of its unrest on August 30, the committee could organize a padayatra from Aganampudi to BHPV, in addition to forming a human chain with 10,000 people on Sunday.

Porata committee leaders said the unrest has entered a crucial phase and they will pressure the Center to reconsider its privatization plan.

Talk to TNIE, president of the recognized union of the Visakhapatnam steelworks and moderator of the committee of porata J Ayodhya Ram, said they would organize a 10 km long padayatra on August 29 to mark the end of the 200 days of their agitation. He said they will hold a seminar against privatization on August 30 and a candlelight rally will follow.

Although 200 days have passed, the unrest has not ceased, with workers participating in different forms of protest with renewed vigor, Ayodhya Ram said.

Since the day the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its approval for the strategic 100 percent divestment of RINL, the legal entity of VSP, on January 27, they have campaigned against the privatization proposal. , he said, adding that they are mobilizing the support of nirvasitulu (hijacked) families for the unrest.

Speaking during the relay fast in Kurmannapalem, committee chairman Dr Adinarayana said the Centre’s decision to sell off public sector companies as well as the steel mill was highly irresponsible and cruel.
