Wang Yi meets with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai
On June 8, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai in Chongqing.
Wang Yi said that China and Thailand are good brothers of one family and good partners of mutual trust and cooperation. The two countries have joined forces to fight COVID-19 and deal with century-old changes, which have strengthened the “one family” brotherhood. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party and begins a new journey to a modern socialist country. Thailand is implementing its reform and innovation-oriented “national revitalization” policies to enhance economic vitality. China and Thailand see a bright future for cooperation. China is willing to work with Thailand to further develop the High Quality Belt and Road and create new driving forces for the development of the two countries and for regional economic development.
Wang Yi pointed out that COVID-19 is the common enemy of mankind. China will join with Thailand and other neighboring countries to build a strong “Great Wall” to effectively prevent and control the pandemic. China-Thailand vaccine cooperation has made notable progress. A large number of Thais have been vaccinated with Chinese vaccines, demonstrating their confidence in Chinese vaccines. China will continue to do its best to meet Thailand’s demand for vaccines and will encourage companies in both countries to discuss establishing COVID-19 vaccine filling centers in Thailand. He expressed appreciation for Thailand’s cooperation in the “Spring Sprout” program and expected the two sides to strengthen their cooperation in disease prevention and control, medical treatment and traditional medicine in order to building a global health-for-all community.
Wang Yi said the two sides should redouble their efforts to negotiate the guidelines of the Belt and Road cooperation plan and elevate the China-Thailand connectivity supported by the China-Thailand railway projects. China supports the deep connection of Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay region, and is willing to deepen cooperation with Thailand in terms of beneficial capacity, infrastructure, smart city and digital innovation, creating new driving forces for the development of the bilateral relationship.
Wang Yi said China supports Thailand in holding the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in 2022 and will work with Thailand to build the Asia-Pacific community of destiny.
Wang Yi added that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the China-ASEAN dialogue relationship. We must sincerely maintain and strengthen the regional cooperation framework centered on ASEAN, and jointly promote regional peace and stability and stimulate regional development and prosperity. The United States’ Indo-Pacific strategy is a clear demonstration of the Cold War mentality. It aims to trigger confrontation, to weaken the foundations of regional cooperation and to hamper regional development, to which we must be very vigilant.
Don Pramudwinai expressed his gratitude for China’s valuable support and sincere help in Thailand’s fight against COVID-19. He said Thailand and China are good friends and close relatives who understand and support each other constantly. Thailand attaches great importance to the important initiatives of President Xi Jinping, and welcomes and hopes that China will continue to play an important role in global governance. Thailand appreciates China’s contribution to global public health businesses and will continue to work with China in the fight against the pandemic. Thailand expects cooperation with Chinese companies in vaccine production and construction of a silk road for health. Thailand commends China for successfully hosting the Special Meeting of ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers. Thailand will use the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations and the 5th anniversary of Lancang-Mekong cooperation to advance the Belt and Road and healthy development of regional cooperation, and ensure regional peace and stability.
Don Pramudwinai said, I visited Chongqing 20 years ago and am amazed at the great changes that have taken place in the city. Chongqing offers a glimpse of China’s development in the new era and proves that China has taken a development path that suits its national condition. I believe that China embraces a better future.
The two sides also had in-depth exchanges of views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
