Why Republicans Make Baseless Pedophilia Charges
Joe Biden’s son Hunter has been a fixture of Donald Trump and his allies for over a year now. Not anxious to govern skillfully in order to gain the support of voters on his merits, the president is instead convinced that the defamation of Biden via his son is the key to his re-election. He is so convinced of this that he tried to bribe a foreign leader to do it for him, which led to his dismissal. Now, with the president in the polls in most swing states and less than two weeks before election day, Trump supporters are throwing their entire pot of spaghetti at Hunter and his father, in the hopes that one or more of their lines of attack could stick.
During the first presidential debate, for example, Trump mocked Hunter for his substance abuse disorder. The next day, Donald Trump Jr. called him a “crackhead”. Rudy Giuliani and Steve Bannon promoted content on a hard drive they claimed belonged to Hunter, full of endearing text messages from Joe Biden and emails that they said showed underhand transactions during the vice. – Biden’s presidency. Right-wing news sites, social media accounts and Giuliani himself have spread allegations that the hard drive also contains footage documenting Hunter’s alleged child abuse story, which he did not believe. there is no supporting evidence.
On the disinformation side, it’s not just Hunter Biden who is targeted by baseless pedophilia allegations designed to instill frenzied fear among supporters of the president, the majority of whom say they believe the top Democrats are involved in crimes. sex trafficking networks. Trump openly suggests that Joe Biden has been a pedophile for over a month. Donald Trump Jr. — who appeared on Fox News Thursday to make unsubstantiated allegations about Hunter’s alleged links to “human trafficking” companies, the Democratic presidential candidate has called a pedophile since May. Newsmax TV host John Cardillo appeared to suggest in a tweet on Wednesday that Joe Biden was committing some sort of incestuous taboo by showing affection for his adult son. “Does this seem like an appropriate father / son interaction to you?He tweeted, accompanied by a photo of Biden hugging Hunter and kissing his cheek.
Right-wing agents replace real stories of real victims with fake stories of hypotheticals those.
These defamations are part of a long history of conservative politicians and commentators accusing Democrats, without any evidence, of sex crimes and child abuse they are unwilling to condemn among their own political allies. There are several reasons why pedophilia is the charge of choice: it is perhaps the easiest to understand and least defensible allegation available to them, and it is one of the few moral grounds that ‘they think they have yet to claim. The invented pedophilia allegations are an attractive ploy for a party whose identity remains shrouded in rhetoric of family values even as its efforts to cover up its hollow moral center run out.
For many on the right, child victims, even though they are completely imaginary, are a much nicer bunch than real people, especially adult women and immigrant children who have suffered legitimate harm. By pumping their supporters’ media regimes with allegations that Democrats are abusing children, right-wing agents are supplanting real stories of real victims with fake stories of hypotheticals. Following the nomination and election of a Republican president who allegedly broke into pageant locker rooms to watch half-naked teenage candidates, publicly speculated on his 1-year-old daughter’s future breasts and allegedly told several young girls that he was dating them one day, Pizzagate and QAnon followers have organized themselves around conspiracy theories that Democrats keep children as sex slaves. Two years ago, after credibly accused child molester Roy Moore was backed by Donald Trump, funded by the Republican National Committee, and only narrowly lost the Senate seat for which he showed up, Mike Cernovich and Jack Posobiec targeted filmmaker James Gunn, Rick and morty co-creator Dan Harmon, and other celebrity dissident Trump with baseless accusations of pedophilia. And today, as a new report reveals that the parents of 545 migrant children who were robbed on the orders of the Trump administration are still nowhere to be found, Trump’s closest allies are trying to link Joe Biden and his son to pedophilia.
The right-wing trolls behind the attacks on Gunn and Harmon have made it clear that they are playing a political game – they are seeking revenge on their political enemies for the dismissal of Roseanne Barr after she made a racist remark about Valerie Jarrett. They didn’t really believe their targets were pedophiles. The current wave of pedophilia allegations is very similar: Trump and his cronies fabricate unsubstantiated allegations in retaliation for real and credible allegations that the president raped, sexually assaulted and sexually harassed more than two dozen women. They are feigning concern for theoretical children – including those who have been theoretically abused by notional transgender people in the bathroom – in response to outrage over the crimes they have committed against real living children. They imagine false accounts of harm they can claim to care about to give themselves barely plausible cover for factual and measurable harm they don’t care about.
This political tactic is in part an attempt to piss off some true believers who think Donald Trump is indeed the savior of all the children Democrats currently hold in bloody torture cells. But it’s not just for proponents and conspiracy theorists. The biggest project of the manufacturing right of pedophilia is the poisoning of the public trust and the political information well of the electorate. They hope people hear these claims and lose all faith in the existence of decent politicians; or start believing that the American political system is so irreparably corrupt, and its leaders so depraved, that they might as well vote for the guy who doesn’t try to hide his corrupt depravity. Alternatively, people may feel so overwhelmed and exhausted that they ignore everything and disengage from the democratic process, or become convinced that there is in fact no moral distance between a politician that makes women uncomfortable. with unwanted hugs and kisses and one that deploys the US Department of Justice to defend against a credible rape allegation.
It is in the interests of the Republican Party, which has distinguished itself in recent years by its unimpeded commitment to defend suspected sex offenders, to flood the media landscape with false allegations of sexual assault against the Democratic Party, including Members showed a greater desire to hold abusers to account. It is up to right-wing leaders, who have totally renounced any attachment to the truth and any concerns about hypocrisy, to tell lies about their political opponents that sound like truths about their political allies. The worst that can happen is that they are exposed as liars and hypocrites. And if so, who would care among their supporters?
